Trip to Katikati

Rooms 7 and 10 spent a great day out on Friday the 27th of February.  We started our adventure exploring the Katikati Haiku Pathway.

After a great time of reading haikus and poems we created some of our own.  We had morning tea there in the lovely surroundings of the walkway.

Next stop was Sapphire Springs where we enjoyed eating our lunch, had fun in the pool swimming, sliding and diving then did a spot of photography. This area is gorgeous and lots of great photos were taken for our upcoming school photo competition.
A huge thank you to our wonderful parents who helped with transport and supervision - you will all fabulous.

Haiku poems by Aston

Licking my ice cream
looking forward to Christmas
the shade awaits me

Flowers burst into life
rubbish scattered on the dirt
birds chirp their heads off

Haikus

Writing: Haikus

In class we have been learning about writing Haikus. "Haiku" is a traditional form of Japanese poetry.  Haiku poems consist of 3 lines.  The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables.  The lines rarely rhyme.
Here's a Haiku to help you remember:
I am first with five
Then seven in the middle --

Five again to end.
